Out of a simple statement comes truth that resounds in the hearts of anyone who's held something near and dear to their heart, which was then made into a movie. I think it's a rallying cry for fandom. I'd wear that t-shirt.

the parking lot was packed at the polling place this morning, and with only a slight amount of issue,
I was able to cast my votes for people who should or shouldn't be in office.

I voted for woody meyers simply because the poll research that I've seen show that he's the one candidate of
the 4 viable ones for district 7 who has a chance of knocking out carson. But he's not the best guy for the job.

David Orentlicher is hands down the best democrat to run for the seat I think. I would love to see a race
between him and Elrod. That would a fun one.

If carson gets unseated, I hope the republicans will actually fund a candidate for once. Elections should be races, not roll over and play dead for seats.

day 3 of training the update

I think layer 3 is going to be the death of me.
the incident response stuff I have pretty cold, but the first place we started with hacking
was the network layer (layer 3). It makes the brain hurt.

I didn't get to sight see too much, I walked down to old san juan on sunday, but then after seeing the first site, I sprained my ankle stepping off a sidewalk, which moved me back to the hotel and
I was done being a tourist. (after 3 days now, It's a lot better, but still a bit gimpy.)

The class is fun overall, the majority of the class is the army team from westpoint who are participating in a cyber attack exercise against the other academy's in a month. They are fun to be around, a bunch of young folks who call you sir a lot. the older guys in the class giggle when they do that.

while he one fair and square, did not have a mandate of the people.
he had a mandate of 18.17 of the people he now represents.

I've had several people complain recently about mounting drives on home machines at work to access files/music/pr0n etc. In listening to a recent podcast, I found out about a nice utility, jungle disk (http://www.jungledisk.com/) which simplifies the use of amazon's s3 simple storage service (http://www.amazon.com/gp/browse.html?node=16427261).

It's all laid out how it works on the jungle disk site, it's not free, it's pay per use, but it's fair and it's encrypted.

So, this is a place holder post for me to refer back to, but also a neat tool to pass along a cool distributed storage system idea along to folks who want to try it out.

you've done it. Admit it. You've stared at the vending machine and tried to
figure out some new flavor combination that will get you through to the next
meal.

Today I tried out nutter butter with a slice of Hershey chocolate in the middle.
It was a just the right mix of peanut butter to chocolate I thought. It left you
with the dry aftertaste you get from peanut butter, and not the oily residue that
you get from eating a peanut butter cup.

I think it might be an indulgent winner. What things have you come across this way?

so, there's now a starbucks on the corner that I drive by all the time.

I started ordering no fat/no whip mochas from them.
But since the new year, they have started the skinny option.
and my mochas have tasted horrid. I think they are secretly
putting in the no fat syrup in as well on me. if I order no fat
or no whip they taste more normal. anyone else encounter issues
like this?

SO, long time no post. I was trying to not post while my mood reflected that of a
pissed off santa ramming a tree up an angel's ass.

But the month of hell at work has also been accompanied by the month of hell at home.
The washer died on us, and after dumping 300 bucks in parts into, I have a new one
coming tomorrow finally.

My mac mini's hd died horridly over the weekend and the conversation with the spouse went:
"so, at least you have your backup from that new backup tool you were talking about."
"yeah, about that. I never got it setup. So there's been no backup."
"you know all you children's photos were on there..."
and then it went downhill from there.

Erichris donned a mighty cape and helped me to recover what looks to be most of the photos at least from the thing, and I had a couple month old backup of Itunes to fall back to. so now all I've lost are some flat files, bookmarks, and my MS office suite.

and I have a franken-ubuntu machine I cobbled together in my dining room to host the dead drive in my recovery attempts. I think I've honestly missed this aspect of computing. it's been stressful, but fun at the same time.

So, hats off to uber geek Erichis and his wonderful gadgets! I think I owe him some incredible item now, for the wife is pleased with our efforts.

thanksgiving rant

I sat down with my daughter this morning to watch the macy's parade,
thinking we could see some big floats and ballons.

I didn't know that the parade has turned into one long infomercial for nbc.
we didn't see one balloon or float. but we saw lots of nbc stars being interviewed
and moved around on golf carts.

I think there was a parade in the background of the interviews, but that
really just distracted from what the cast of heroes had to say about how
well their show is doing.

what a waste of space.
